Our Multi-Step Coating Process & Cure Schedule
An epoxy floor is only as strong as its bond to the concrete. We follow a highly structured, professional preparation and installation process to guarantee your floor never peels, chips, or delaminates. Below is the precise step-by-step timeline of our typical garage application.
Concrete Preparation & Grinding
We begin by clearing any remaining debris and running our heavy-duty planetary diamond grinders across the entire floor. This step is critical:
- Removes any existing paints, glues, sealers, and weak surface concrete.
- Opens up the pores of the concrete to achieve a Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) of 2 to 3.
- Provides a raw, porous, profile layer that acts like teeth for the epoxy to bite into.
Crack, Joint, & Divot Reconstruction
Once ground clean, we inspect every square inch of the concrete. We vacuum out and clean all cracks and joints, then repair them using our fast-cure polyurea concrete repair gel:
- Cracks are filled and ground completely flush with the surrounding concrete floor.
- Control joints are repaired to prevent cracking between slabs.
- All anchor holes, pitting, and spalling are completely patched and smoothed.
Moisture Barrier & Primer Application
After a thorough multi-stage HEPA vacuuming, we mix and apply our commercial-grade, moisture-vapor-barrier epoxy primer. This deep-penetrating layer locks out ground moisture and chemically seals the concrete.
Epoxy Basecoat & Full Color Broadcast
While the primer is fresh, we pour and squeegee our 100% solids epoxy base coat. Then, we perform a massive "double-broadcast" flake throw. Over 100 pounds of flake are broadcast into the wet epoxy by hand until the floor is fully saturated and the chips stand upright at refusal.
Flake Scrape, Reclaim, & Polyaspartic Seal
We return the next morning to recover all unbound flakes. We scrape the entire floor flat in multiple directions using wide steel blades, vacuum the floor pristine, and apply a thick, UV-stable clear polyaspartic topcoat:
- Ensures a beautifully flat, slip-resistant, and comfortable walking texture.
- Locks all decorative color flakes permanently in place.
- Creates an impenetrable shield against chemicals, battery acids, oils, and physical impact.
