Metallic epoxy is a specialized coating system that uses metallic pigments — real metal shavings and mica flakes suspended in clear epoxy resin. How It's Different From Standard Flake Epoxy

Standard flake epoxy uses colored vinyl chips broadcast across the surface for a speckled, terrazzo-like appearance. Metallic epoxy uses metallic pigments blended into the epoxy itself, which creates depth and movement within the coating. The result is a smooth, high-gloss surface with swirling patterns and reflective depth.

The Installation Process

Metallic epoxy requires more skill and experience than standard flake systems. The installer must work quickly and deliberately to create the desired effect before the epoxy begins to cure.

1. Surface prep: Diamond grind and crack repair (same as standard epoxy)
2. Primer coat: 100% solids epoxy primer for adhesion
3. Metallic base coat: Epoxy mixed with metallic pigments, applied with specialized techniques (rolling, spraying, dripping) to create movement and pattern
4. Manipulation: Solvent spritz, denatured alcohol, or heat guns create the 3D effect
5. Clear topcoat: UV-stable polyurea for protection and gloss

The entire process takes 2-3 days, and the metallic effect is revealed as the clear topcoat is applied — it's always a "wow" moment.
